Shipping a Car to Puerto Rico

Our role at ShipLux is to make the process of shipping your vehicle to Puerto Rico as stress-free and as straightforward as possible. We proudly offer door pickup in the states and port-to-port shipping for easy collection in the PR! We offer the following methods of shipment to get your vehicle safely to Puerto Rico:

1. Roll-on roll-off (RoRo) shipping: Roll-on, roll-off shipping means that your vehicle will be driven onto the ship using the vehicle's own wheels! It will not be lifted into the ship by a crane. It will be held in place for the duration of the trip by safety measures that will not harm the vehicle.  RoRo shipping is convenient as it doesn't involve lifting and your vehicle will remain safe through the process. Not only is it safe, but RoRo is also the cheapest option to get your vehicle to Puerto Rico.

1. Closed container shipping: Opting for closed-container shipping to Puerto Rico means that your vehicle will be professionally and carefully by highly trained members. The vehicle will be placed into a fully closed container for the duration of the trip, offering it 360-degree coverage. ShipLux offers a wide range of containers, including 20 and 40-foot containers, so can comfortably fit any vehicle regardless of shape and size. If you are shipping a luxury car or just one that is dear to your heart, closed-container shipping is the best option. Please note that the cost is a little more elevated than RORO shipping.

1. Air-freight shipping: Air-freight shipping takes luxury to new heights. Give your car a birds-eye view, as it makes its way via airplane to Puerto Rico! Opting for air-freight shipping will get your vehicle to Puerto Rico in record time, and is the safest option. Airplanes are carefully monitored so shipping it will keep the vehicle protected from any external elements including theft. While this option is incredibly quick and safe, it is the most expensive option for shipping.

Upon arriving, picking up your shipped car in Puerto Rico is straightforward. If you select door-to-door shipping, our trained team will meet your vehicle and swiftly whisk it away, bringing it right to the final destination for you to reunite.

You, a friend, or a family member can pick up the vehicle in  San Juan! All we ask is that you inform us who is picking up your vehicle so we can update the paperwork so that there will be no hold-ups at the port. Whoever is collecting your vehicle must provide the necessary documents including photo identification, a copy of the Title of Ownership, and a notarized letter of permission to pick up the shipped car (if it’s not you!) 

The port in Puerto Rico where your vehicle will arrive is in San Juan and offers a whopping 4.6 hectares of space for loading and unloading cargo.

1. Method of Shipping: RoRo is the most budget-friendly, followed by closed-container and finally, air-freight. Depending on which mode you choose, the price will reflect that.
2. Shipping location: Depending on where your vehicle starts in the U.S. will impact the overall price you pay! The longer that the vehicle needs to be shipped the more expensive it will be. We will pick up your vehicle from anywhere, rural or urban, it's no problem. We always include the costs of the shipping location in your personalized quote.
3. The type of vehicle : When you fill out a ShipLux quote, you will be asked about the make, model, weight, size, and year of your vehicle. While it's partly because we love cars and are curious, we need to know that longer and taller cars, like SUVs and minivans, will be more expensive than smaller cars.
4. Your time frame and flexibility : Flexibility and the timing of your shipment will impact the price. For example, if the timing is a grave concern, and you do not require your car in Puerto Rico for a specific date, your price will likely be less, as we will coordinate it with other vehicles making a similar trip.  If, however, you have a specific date on which you require your car, we will do our best to accommodate this request, at an additional price.
5. The shape of your vehicle: If you are shipping a vehicle that has a high price tag or is inoperable (which, yes, we do ship!)It will most likely need additional equipment for loading and care throughout care. We do our utmost to protect all vehicles, but the added features can up the price.
6. Paperwork : While Puerto Rico is a territory of the U.SThe vehicle must still be cleared by Puerto Rican customs and you will need to pay the required customs and import tax.
